"Sebagian besar pengguna Internet tidak mungkin berhubungan dengan DNS, Domain Name System, namun walaupun mereka menggunakan setiap hari di Internet. DNS pada dasarnya adalah sebuah sistem untuk mengubah nama domain menjadi alamat IP. Nama domain lebih mudah untuk memahami, menghafal dan menulis untuk manusia sementara komputer hanya menggunakan alamat IP untuk berkomunikasi. Internet Service Provider biasanya adalah salah satu yang menyediakan server DNS untuk pelanggan. Hal ini terjadi lebih sering daripada tidak secara otomatis.

Kemarin Google mengumumkan bahwa mereka telah mulai menawarkan server DNS publik juga. Sistem ini, disebut Google Public DNS, dirancang untuk "membuat pengguna 'pengalaman surfing web lebih cepat, lebih aman dan lebih dapat diandalkan".
Speed: Resolver-side cache misses adalah salah satu kontributor utama DNS lamban tanggapan. Teknik caching pintar dapat membantu meningkatkan kecepatan respon ini. Google Public DNS menerapkan prefetching: sebelum TTL pada catatan berakhir, kami refresh catatan terus-menerus, asychronously dan mandiri dari permintaan pengguna untuk banyak domain populer. Ini memungkinkan Google Public DNS untuk melayani banyak permintaan DNS dalam perjalanan bolak- balik waktu yang dibutuhkan sebuah paket untuk bepergian ke server kami dan kembali.
Keamanan: DNS spoofing rentan terhadap serangan yang dapat meracuni cache dari nameserver dan dapat rute semua pengguna ke situs Web berbahaya.

Aku baru aja nyoba pake fasilitas terbaru dari Google ini, yaitu Google Public DNS.
Disini aku mau coba kasih tau cara settingnya, tapi sebelum ku jelasin cara settingnya ku mau kasih kesaksian kalau nih fasilitas TOP BGT! Browsing pake Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5 Jadi kebut banget. Ku pake Indosat3.5 G Unlimited 256 Kbps dengan sinyal 3bar buka website- website dengan konten bandwith killer jadi kebut bgt.coba rasain sendiri sob... cara settingnya gampang bgt kok, Ok.. ok.. nih cara settingnya sob...

Buat yang Pakai OS Windows 7 dan Vista :
1. Buka Control Panel.
2. Klik Network and Sharing Center, kemudian Mengelola koneksi jaringan.
3. Pilih koneksi yang pengen dikonfigurasiin Google Public DNS.
Contoh: * Untuk mengubah pengaturan untuk koneksi LAN, klik kanan Local Area Connection, dan klik Properties.
* Untuk mengubah pengaturan untuk koneksi nirkabel, klik kanan Wireless Network Connection, dan klik Properties.
4 . Pilih tab Networking. Klik Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), dan kemudian klik Properties.
5. Klik Advanced dan pilih tab DNS. Jika ada alamat IP server DNS terdaftar di sana, catat untuk referensi kalau nanti mau digunakan lagi.
6. Klik OK.
7. Pilih Use the Following DNS Server Addresses. Jika ada alamat IP yang terdaftar di server DNS Preferred atau Alternate DNS server, catat untuk referensi kalau nanti mau digunakan lagi.
8 . Ganti alamat IP dengan IP dari server Google DNS : 8.8.8.8 dan 8.8.4.4. 9. Restart koneksi Internet ente, reconnect gan!
10. Siap browsing kebut gan, jangan lupa pake sabuk pengaman... heheee"
