Baldwin Software
1.7.2009 15:44:30 GMT
I completely overhauled the BaldwinSoftware.com page with a new css and an embedded newsblog using nabble.
Take a look and let me know what you think?
Is it navigable? Will people find the software they seek? Is it pleasing to the eye?

Thanks.

One thing I've been contemplating for a while is making baldwinsoftware.com the main/default/top domain for that hosting account, and moving the linguasos.org stuff to a secondary role,
mostly since I am no longer actively working on Linguas OS, and not sure that I will continue. I do know that I will continue to learn to write software, though.
At the moment, baldwinsoftware.com just forwards to http://www.linguasos.org/bsoft/index.html, a page in a secondary dir on that host.
The thing is, moving stuff around like that could be a lot of work.
I don't want to remove the linguasos stuff...not just now, because I do want that livecd to still be available to people who want to try it. I'm just not continuing development on the project.
I have contemplated creating a new Linguas OS based on debian or ubuntu, but haven't found the time or motivation to do so. After all, it really is a niche product, and with very little apparent demand.
New Tdict release - fully platform independent
1.7.2009 2:41:20 GMT
I created a fully platform independent binary file for TDict, my ticklish dictionary look-up program.
One just clicks, and, voila! look up words till your heart's content.
New zip file at sourceforge.net, see project page or freshmeat page.
Been hacking up a storm these past few days.

I made new releases of TclUP and TclText, and now, TDict. I also submitted Shakes to Freshmeat.

I also contributed minor code to Toxic, a ttx conversion filter for treatment of Trados ttx files in OmegaT (free/open source CAT tool)...but really minor code...not even sure if my "enhancements" have been uploaded yet.
It was mostly slight alterations to the gui, more than anything.
My first code contribution to an open source project (prior contributions have all been in writing documentation or localization efforts...well, aside from the projects that I, myself, have created, anyway).

Some day I will be a real hacker.
This REALLY WORKS!

Grateful Dead, Hartford Civic Center, 04/26/09
27.4.2009 11:16:43 GMT
I took my daughter to her first DEAD show last night. In all likelihood, it will be my last show, I imagine.
I had no plans to go, but some friends were going up and at the last minute we decided to join them. I figure it was Rhianna's last chanceo to ever see the Grateful Dead, and mine, too.
We do have plans to see Bobby's band in July in Bridgeport at the Gathering of the Vibes, though.
We had good seats, just up behind stage left, with a great view of Mickey and Billy.
Sure, it's not quite the same without Jerry, but that Warren kid they brought on does a good job.
I hadn't seen a DEAD show since Deer Creek, IN, in 1992, and, of course, Rhianna had never seen them.
I did see Jerry Band in Hartford in 94, right there at the Civic Center.
Anyway...
Here's the set list:
Set 1:
Bertha
Till The Morning Comes
Little Red Rooster
Row Jimmy
All Along The Watchtower
Glory Road
West L.A. Fadeaway
Cumberland Blues

Set 2:
The Weight>
Tomorrow Never Knows> (The Beatles)
Black Peter>
Greatest Story Ever Told>
Drums>
Space>
King Solomon's Marbles>
Viola Lee Blues>
Sampson & Delilah>

Encore: Ripple
I amaze myself...seriously.

Okay, I've been hacking away at this translation project...marketing surveys conducted in London, with French tourists (thus, in French) all day, in this freezing aparment, and have delivered, now,
28,260 words worth of work since Monday.
That's an average of 9,240 words/day.
Dude...I rock.
There is some repetition in these interviews, but not a lot, since what I have are transcripts from recordings of interviews conducted on the street, and the interviewere does not deliver the questions in precisely the same manner every time.
I'm cranking.
I'm going to try and knock off another 5000 or 6000 words tonight, even, and will have about the same left to do tomorrow.
After that, I have another 16,000 word project from the same client to deliver on Monday.
This second project will be more difficult, legislation from Algeria, not street interviews.
It will not go as quickly as this current project.
Sleep is not currently an option.
I hadn't been sleeping much lately, anyway, but before it was because I was either anxious/stressed/worried, or painting obsessively.
I much prefer not sleeping because I have paid work to do.
I'm glad I made a HUGE pot o' chili two days ago, and won't have to cook for a couple of days...
Anyway...back to work!

I'm not desperate for a date, thanks....nor am I interested in viewing your online strip-tease, web-cam show...sorry.
No, I don't believe you have $800million in a bank account waiting for me in Nigeria, either.
I'm here to make friends, not just spam links trying to get rich on the internet.
Making new friends makes my life richer.
If I make a few bucks, great...
I happen to run my own company already, and am not desperate for some spare change.
.If all you're about is trying to push some MLM, good luck...but I'm not interested...I rather think that actually participating in this site, posting relevant content, making real friends, participating in clubs, etc., is a lot more fun. Like I said, if it makes me a few buck, great...but, first and foremost, this is a social site, and I like to be social!
You're under 18 years of age, no, I won't add you. Sorry.
Entonces, se le gusta Rock en Espanol...
Se você é brasileiro/a...
If you hack linux, tcl, python, java....
Si vous parlez francais
Si hablas espanol
Se você fala portugues
Or have other interests in common with me, please do add me, and I look forward to getting to know you.
Otherwise, enjoy the view, and move on quietly...
Thanks!
