| As humans, we place a huge amount of importance on the idea of a consciousness, as well as the idea of a self. We place such an inflated sense of importance upon it, when in fact the vast majority of the universe is most probably non-conscious. If we believe that a conscious entity created the universe from nothing, created space, time, energy, matter etc, we believe that it must have been conscious before this creation in order to create it - yet, without time, there could not have been a before; without space, there couldn't have been a dimension for this consciousnessto exist in; and, without matter or energy, there simply would not have been anyting for this consciousness to exist for. Our consciousness' only exist to decode reality, allowing us to survive. Without a reality to decode, there is no reason for a God to exist. And, if God existed without reason (if he existed at all), he would not be perfect; a perfect God would have perfect purpose at all times.
The way I think about it, everything that we think about outside sustainance and procreation is a truly amazing feat. We haven't really evolved much in a good few thousand years. We are still built to hunt and kill, whether or not we're existing in the comfortable confines of civilisation. We aren't built with the capacity to understand the infinite nature of the universe. We can write it all down on paper, come up with the numbers, but to actually understand it is something that is beyond human comprehension. However, just because it is outside our comprehension doesn't mean we should replace it with nonsensical, illogical ideas of a God. |
