Boost Your CPU Speed

CPU speed boost

Five easy steps to a faster computer.

Step One
Scan your computer for viruses, adware, spyware, and other malware using Trend Micro's HouseCall.

HouseCall is totally free and will never require you to buy anything. You will only have to agree to download a small file to allow it to run the scan on your computer.

Step Two
Update your computer using Microsoft Windows Update. DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER YET!
http://update.microsoft.com/

Step Three
Go to My Computer, then to your Control Panel. Click "Add or Remove Programs." Uninstall programs you installed, but never use.

Be Careful With This! - If you do not know what something is, do not get rid of it. You might cause your computer to crash.

Step Four
At this point, it is safe to restart your computer to allow for your computer to catch up to the updates/uninstalls.

Step Five
Go to My Computer, then right-click the icon of your main drive (usually C or D) and select "Properties."

Click on "Disk Cleanup" (this might take a minute or two.) Make sure all the boxes are checked and click "OK."

Go back to "Disk Cleanup," and this time click the "More Options" tab. Under "System Restore" click "Clean up...."

That's it! Enjoy your computer's faster speed! :)

I have to admit that when I read the title of this blog post I was expecting a post about overclocking your CPU. :)

Great tips on cleaning and speeding up the Windows OS.

I am just too much of a geek! LOL!

Here's an addition to your step five. Google for Crap Cleaner and download it.

This little gem is a lot better than the Windows disk cleaner and will clean your registry, your applications, and those Windows temp files that the Windows Disk Cleanup cleaner never touches:

x:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp

The above temp folder is a system folder that you will never see and can great crazy. Taking hundreds of megabytes of space (depending on how long you've been using XP).
