7/9/2008 EVILKIM'S BOOKSHELF: Let's EAT!
Today I'm doing something a little different. I made the discovery of a really awesome cook book (yeah...I know..I'm a disaster in the kitchen) that I'm now recommending to everyone. It has some awesome twists on some really cool recipes that make them healthy food. As a weight loss success story (the ONLY thing I have ever seen through to completion in my life!) and the wife of a heart surgery patient, I'm always trying to find food that is good, fun, healthy and easy to make. It's also a plus if the recipe will not put me in danger of having a visit from the fire department (although having the fore boys swing by doesn't sound that awful on the surface).
Anyhoooo, I give you The Hungry Girl Cookbook by Lisa Lillien.
Click here to eyeball the Amazon review on Hungry Girl...and ignore the one or two negative reviews...from people who seem to be p.o.ed that these recipes don't taste EXACTLY like the high fat/high calorie versions. I've tried a number of the recipes already, and added some of my own (read: Hubster's...because he is king o' the kitchen here) spices, and ALL of them were YUM!
Check it out! Evilkim says "Be healthy, Have fun & Eat well!"
you know i had to come by--garfield was making a beeline over here because you said his favorite word-food. That's the ticket- size, shape, color or name doesn't matter- it's consumable! lol...I love anything that is easy to make-especially when it's hot, sticky , and you don't feel like moving much. Will have to check this out- thanks :o)
TOTALLY check it out. I think I paid around $17 for it at Borders. Now, when Hubster gets in a cooking rut, I can whip up something yum that doesn't involve a trip to some gourmet shop. I HATE those recipes that call for rarely used and exotic items. Martha Stewart flat pisses me off for thinking EVERYONE keeps large capers in their pantry like she does.
I am delightfully surprised to see Lisa Lillien's 'Hungry Girl' on your list. My mom just gave it to me as gift. What a coincidence! So far I've tried six recipes and they are all mouth watering. Great way to keep your weight in tow. I've just signed up for the free daily email.
Yay, I'm glad you like my suggestion :-) After losing close to 70 lbs myself some years back, I am always on the lookout for healthy and delicious recipes. I saw the author of this book on The Today Show and was immediately hooked! The mini-cheesesteak sandwiches are super good. Especially if you add grilled peppers along with the onions. Mmmm.
